It’s easy to forget that proper tree care is not limited to just our popular ornamental trees such as Crapemyrtles, Dogwoods, Japanese Maples, etc. With the severe storms we have encountered recently, it has become apparent to many of us that there is a need for proper tree care for our larger lawn trees and those within the wooded areas of our properties, too. Larger trees sometimes need just as much attention as that beautiful cut-leaf Japanese Maple located next to your patio. Pruning out dead/diseased wood, thinning the overall canopy, removing crossed branches, and other practices can also be applied to our more mature trees.
If you have any concerns about the larger trees on your property, please contact us. We can’t handle every issue but we do work with tree companies we trust that we would gladly put you in touch with, no matter the situation. |

We've been getting a lot of questions recently about plant watering, especially with the extreme hot and dry weather we've had. The truth is, there is no 1 correct answer. Everyone's landscape is unique consisting of different light and site conditions, individual plant requirements and so on. It's best if our clients interact, grow and learn from their landscapes so that they can make the best informed decision for their landscape as possible.
One rule we definitely live by is that when you do water, water for a longer duration so that the water can work its way deep into the ground to promote deeper root growth. This helps make a stronger plant and one that is better able to get through hot/dry stretches like what we have had recently. If you're able to, place your hose at the base of shrubs and trees and run the water at a trickle for an hour or so. This will keep the water from just running off and will let it soak deeper down. For perennials and lawns, water until the ground is saturated several inches down.
If we have installed a drip irrigation system at your site, you're in good hands. Turn each section on for an hour or so and you will be good.
Again, we can't stress enough that each property, plant and even our clients are different. Keep your eye on things and make the best decision you can. If you need to, call or email us and we will try to give you a more individual answer.
Have a good day!
